End-of-Season Celebration, Season Photos, VEO Archives

player with ball on sideline

We hope you can join us for our end-of-season celebration at The Woodland on Monday, Dec. 9, from 6-9pm. This is a great time to share memories and for the coaches to celebrate the players.

This year we adjusted the way we are running the event so we could shift funds to incremental coaching staff. We will provide food for the players and coaches, but dinner will be a potluck for families. We ask that each family bring a shareable dish or dessert. We will also provide water and sodas for everyone. If you have questions about what to bring, email Lindsay at [email protected].

It will be VERY helpful if you can RSVP on this form right away, and no later than Monday, Dec. 2. Each family can bring two people in addition to their player(s), and you can also indicate two people for our waitlist. Once we have a final headcount, we might have room for more. Senior families will have waitlist priority, and others will be accommodated in order of RSVP date.

We are also looking for volunteers to help with the event. Check out the jobs on the RSVP form and let us know if you can lend a hand!

Senior Night and Photos

Big thank you to Melinda Hecht and all of the volunteers who made senior night so delightful – Mor Rubin, Donna Navan, Rodney and Stacy Fontil, Sunita Subramanian, Rachel Herwaldt and Peter Goldberg. Check out photos from senior night and the entire season on our Google Drive.

If you have photos you’d like to share, you can upload them to that same drive.

VEO Game Videos

Players who want to keep highlight videos from the season should create a player profile. VEO deletes recordings after six months, so be sure to check this out if you are thinking about the college recruiting process.

Welcome to the 2024 Season!

Here’s what you need to know for the 2024 season.

Parent Meeting Thursday Evening

The coaches will host an informational meeting for all players and families this Thursday (Sept. 5) at 6pm. We will congregate near the bleachers at Ritzer.

They will discuss the season ahead and answer questions. The Boosters will also provide an update on initiatives for the season.

Booster Dues and Fundraising

We will soon be collecting annual player dues through an online donation form (link coming soon). Dues help us fund development opportunities for the program and celebrations of our players, among other things.

While we ask any family who can cover the annual dues to do so, all players will receive the benefits of the Booster Club regardless of their ability to pay.

Any donation you make above the dues will be tax deductible and will help pay for team extras and for families who cannot afford the dues. A tax receipt for the donation amount will automatically be emailed to you when you complete the form.

You can also contribute to our fundraising efforts by finding sponsors or contributing items for raffles. For example, we are able to sell advertising banners at Underhill for $600. For raffle items, tickets to sporting events or shows are always a hit. If you have ideas, email Lindsay Belisle at [email protected].

Team Schedules

To see schedules for all three teams, go to the CHS page on the Super Essex Conference website (secconference.org) and click “View Schedules” on the right. Scroll down until you see “Soccer,” click the appropriate box and the “View” button. Note that these schedules are not finalized, so check them often to make sure you’re getting the latest information.

Merch Store

The 2024 CHS Soccer Store is now open!

We have lots of great options to choose from, and a percentage of each sale goes directly to the Boosters.

The store will be open through Sept. 10, and orders will be distributed directly to players at practice. Turnaround time is expected to be three weeks after the store closes.

Banner Photo Shoots

Local photographer Yasmeen Anderson will once again be shooting banner photos on Wednesday, Sept. 4, at 2pm at Underhill Field House. The cost for seniors will be covered by the boosters. Freshmen-Juniors can also sign up for a session for $40. For more information and links, check out this flyer.

Veo Available for JV and Varsity
screenshot of soccer field and players during Bergen Catholic scrimmage

Thanks to a donation from the CHS Athletic Hall of Fame Committee, we have a second Veo camera this season so both Varsity and JV games can be filmed.

The Veo cameras automatically track the action, capture key game events and create highlight clips that can be reviewed and analyzed by coaches and players. All players will be given access to the Veo platform so they can review the games and even generate personal highlight reels. The recent varsity scrimmage against Bergen Catholic is here.

We are looking for volunteers to help set up the cameras at games. Be on the lookout for a sign-up form, coming soon.

New Faces on the Sidelines

Join us in welcoming Yusuf Odubayo, the new CHS trainer, and new additions to the coaching staff: Ryan Santos, a teacher at MMS who played at TCNJ; Jordan Cimring, who played at Muhlenberg College; and Christian DeJesus, a 2022 CHS graduate.

Call for Photos and Videos

We are always looking for visuals from all of our teams. You can drop them in this Google Folder. Feel free to create folders (i.e., “Bergen Catholic varsity photos by Your Name,”) and try to ID players in the file names if possible. You can also email them to [email protected].

About the Boosters

We are parent volunteers working to support the boys soccer program at CHS. We are an officially recognized 501(c)(3) organization, tax ID 90-0439169.

We encourage you to follow the boosters on Facebook and subscribe to our email list.

Welcome to the New Season!

Here’s what our Columbia soccer families need to know for the 2023 season.

Annual Membership Dues

Following on Coach Muirhead’s parent orientation meeting, we are kicking off our request for annual player dues. The $175 per player goes toward covering some of the following costs:

  • Two practice jerseys for all players
  • Attendance for each player and one guest at the end-of-year gathering
  • Festivities honoring the athletic achievements and teamwork of the seniors at the annual Senior Night game

While we do ask any family who can cover the annual dues per player to do so, all players will receive the benefits of the Booster Club whether or not they or their families contribute.

Any donation you make above the dues will be fully tax deductible and will help pay for team extras and for families who cannot afford the dues. A tax receipt for the donation amount over $175 will automatically be emailed to you when you complete the form.

Last year, thanks to your generosity, we were able to buy a Veo camera to record games so players and coaches can study game film and create highlight reels. Donations also helped subsidize the summer training programs and the summer league at Montclair State.

For 2023 and beyond, we have a longer term goal of working with Coach Muirhead to fund additional coaching.

If you’re in a position to donate more than $175, please consider doing so – the money will definitely be put to good use! If you’d prefer to pitch in by helping us get creative with general fundraising efforts, just shoot us a note at [email protected].

Thank you for your support of the team and the CHS Boys Soccer Boosters. We’re looking forward to a great season!

All team schedules are available on the Super Essex Conference website. This view shows all games for varsity, JV and freshman teams. Check it regularly as the details sometimes change.

Tryout Details

In case you missed the email, here are the tryout details from Coach Muirhead:

Hello Cougar Soccer Families,

I just wanted to send you all an email highlighting our tryout and preseason period as I know even though I have shared this information with your son(s), it may not have made it back to you yet. Below is our schedule for the week of August 21st and how things work. Additionally, a quick note regarding medical clearances – I know some of you have been CC’ing me on emails to our athletic trainer regarding player clearance, the clearance list has remained largely unchanged for the past month due to Vanessa not being a 12 month employee, however, with football now underway, she is back and working on the medical paperwork – please keep an eye on your emails in case she reaches out regarding a missing form/signature. I will post updated clearance lists on our Google classroom and Group Me as they begin to accumulate.

What comes next…

By 10:30pm on Wednesday night every player will receive an email to their student email address, the email will either say congratulations, we are offering you a spot in the program this season, practice is at this time and this place tomorrow – or the other email that will go out is that unfortunately we are not able to offer you a spot this year, if you are interested in being a manager for the team (helps coaches with practices, participates in practice when the opportunity arises and helps coaches with stats during games) please let us know, additionally we encourage players to reach out and to set up a meeting with the coaching staff the following week so that we can provide a more in depth overview of their evaluation and how they can improve.

Why the email method – this was adopted as a recommendation from the athletic department leading into the covid period (in lieu of posting names on a board or calling the kids in one at a time), this coupled with the growth in the soccer program (we have 98 players who gave me their name for tryouts this fall) plus a condensed preseason schedule courtesy of the njsiaa (more on that shortly) has made it almost impossible to sit down with 30-40 players one at a time immediately following the final tryout. Additionally, making reductions is the worst part of this job and having been cut before myself (high school basketball) I know it’s never easy to digest from the player’s side either, which is why we recommend the meeting the following week for players who want to follow up on their evaluation.

The Preseason…

Practices for all levels begin the next day so there will be practice Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The NJSIAA requires 6 practices and a day of rest before a player is eligible to participate in a scrimmage. Our first scrimmage is the following Monday 8/28 so a player must be at all 3 days of tryouts, plus the following three days of practices to be eligible to play on Monday. For those of you trying to plan one last get away before school starts, our schedule for the end of August looks like this:

  • 8/28 – Scrimmage
  • 8/29 – Practice
  • 8/30 – Scrimmage
  • 8/31 – Practice
  • 9/1 – Scrimmage
  • 9/2 – Off Day
  • 9/3 – Off Day
  • 9/4 – Morning Practice
  • 9/5 – Scrimmage
  • 9/6 – Practice
  • 9/7 – First Game of the Regular Season

…. Pretty crazy, but with the four scrimmages and days off, we only get 7 days of practices between the last day of tryouts and the first game of the regular season. Everything moves very very quickly once we are underway.

There will be a player and parent meeting on the evening of Friday August 25th, location TBD (pending access to the high school) where we will discuss more and answer any questions, but hopefully this email should take care of most of the pressing issues.
